Built in the 14th century by Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq, Tughlaqabad Fort was meant to be the most powerful city in Delhi. Its massive sloping walls rise dramatically from the rocky landscape, creating one of the most striking fortifications of the Delhi Sultanate. Even today, the site feels vast, rugged, and slightly untamed.
And yet, within just a few years, the city was mysteriously abandoned. One famous story links its fate to the curse of the Sufi saint Nizamuddin Auliya. But behind the legend lie deeper political and strategic realities.
