Whenever we think about the word travel, we often wonder about going somewhere far away, someplace which is unfamiliar and unknown, where our acquaintances don’t reside, something far from home, right? But what if we tell you that one of the biggest travel trends of the past few years is related to staying in your hometown, just visiting places nearby and rejuvenating the entire time? This is known as a staycation, a trend that has taken over the tourism industry since the pandemic. Honestly, to me, travelling is all about going someplace alien, moving your soul to a place where you feel different, and being amongst foreign souls. So, I could never really comprehend the meaning of a staycation and the motivation behind it until I read about it and got to know how people don’t always think alike. So let us decode the ‘staycation logic’.
Once the pandemic era started in 2019, people started to avoid going to faraway places for tourism and resorted to locations nearby. Apart from this, people also got used to working from home and became more engrossed in their comfort zone. So, even after the COVID-19 times, people wished to stay in the vicinity of their homes and wanted to go to familiar places to avoid stressful travelling regimes and packed itineraries. This mindset led to the rising popularity of staycations and made people realise that if they wanted to travel for leisure, they could do it by staying nearby.
Staycations also happen to be better options for people who want to take a break but not stop working. Most people today want to take a short retreat where they can rejuvenate and work at the same time, and this desire is fulfilled by a staycation. Good luxurious stays at a hotel near your home, in addition to good quality Wi-Fi or net connection, make your stay trip relaxing and do not demand much in return, unlike in traditional travelling, where we tend to plan a lot of activities and tasks to complete, and one cannot commit to their work.
Staycations also seem to be more environment friendly as long-distance travel is minimized and hence, the carbon footprint is reduced to a significant level. Lately, as people have become sounder about the environmental degradation caused by traditional forms of travel, more and more alternatives to help reduce environmental and ecosystem-related harm are being brought to the table. Amongst these alternatives, multiple stay options and residences are being promoted so that sustainable travel can take a step forward. Staycations are likable for another reason, even people who do not have prior work commitments want a quiet restful retreat nearby. People constantly want to break away from their lives and surroundings to settle and relax in a place and staycation suffices these desires perfectly. Everyone does not want to backpack and hop from one destination to another; some want to lay in bed and conveniently visit the nearby natural sites and others want to spend quality time with their families by just taking spas and massages. This also helps the tourists connect deeply with nature and the essence of the place.
This novel concept saves more money. People seeking a budget-friendly mode of travel should definitely consider staycations for their next trip. It saves money from long flights and the random activities one tends to take up when on a trip. Tourists just have to pay for the accommodation and short transportation mode and they are sorted for the ‘staycation’.
How convinced are you to take up a staycation now?
