This immersive Darjeeling Walks’ journey is designed to place you inside the living, breathing heart of Losar as it unfolds across monasteries, forest paths, and ancestral homes of the Eastern Himalaya.

Expect slow travel, heritage storytelling, forest-side rituals, conversations with Monks and

Communities, and intimate access to traditions rarely seen from the outside.

Itinerary

Arrive in Darjeeling and settle into a Tibetan Family Home with warm butter tea awaiting you. As evening comes down softly over the town, step onto the quiet village for an Orientation Walk - a sensory prelude into Losar colours, scents, and sounds.

At a local Tibetan family home, you witness the early preparations: fragrant incense,

hand-kneaded khapse (festive pastries), and stories of New Year rituals passed down

generations.

Dinner carries the first notes of celebration. A Tibetan home-cooked Meal will be served.

Early morning sunrise village walk through a Lepcha settlement. Experience a tranquil dawn as the village awakens - soft mountain light, birdsong, and daily rhythms of Lepcha life.

Go for cultural immersion walk - gain an intimate glimpse into Lepcha traditions and morning routines, offering a mindful and grounding start to the day. Enjoy a simple, local breakfast hosted within the village.

After breakfast, go for a forest and heritage trails - walk along Lepcha Tibetan trails overlooking the valley, learning about the forest’s spiritual role in Himalayan cosmology.

Monastery visit and Pre-Losar Cleansing Rituals - participate in sacred chants and incense rituals, marking the energetic transition into the Tibetan New Year.

Afternoon Tea with Monks - Informal conversations at a monk’s residence, exploring themes of dharma, resilience, and the inward essence of Losar.

Morning Tibetan Tale walk exploring Darjeeling’s Indo-Tibetan past, sacred symbols, and heroic legends. Learn about Guru Rinpoche, the Dorje (Vajra), and the land of the Thunderbolt.

Late Morning walk through Tibetan neighborhoods alive with Losar preparations. Witness doorway blessings, refreshed altars, and symbolic festive pastries.

Afternoon lunch followed by a Thangka and Symbolism Session decoding Losar iconography. Understand celestial animals, auspicious colours, and elemental cycles.

Evening community kitchen experience - momo shaping, broth making, and shared traditions. Folk songs, butter lamps, and dinner with a local family close the day.

Early Morning walk to a monastery in the soft Himalayan blue hour. Immerse in ancient Losar prayers with trumpets, drums, and incense.

Morning go share shey-go (first morning tea) and a traditional Losar feast with monks. A moment of warmth, ritual, and communal blessing.

Midday heritage Losar Trail through forest ridges and ancestral Tibetan homes. Prayer flags flutter as the new year is welcomed across the landscape.

Evening arrive at a quiet viewpoint for New Year meditation. Reflect, release, and set intentions as the day closes.

A gentle morning walk through Darjeeling’s historic lanes wraps the journey. Final blessings at a small monastery and a closing circle with your group - sharing what the new year means to each of us.
