This trip immerses you deeply into the traditions, history, and everyday life of the Naga people. Beginning in Jakhama, you explore the vibrant culture of the Southern Angamis through heritage walks, community weaving centres, seed banks, and a traditional woodfire picnic with local rice beer.
The journey continues through the historic warrior village of Khonoma and the serene forest valley of Dzuleke, followed by a cultural tour of Kohima’s museum, cathedral, WWII Memorial, and bustling Mao Bazaar. Travelling onward to Phek district, you experience the timeless charm of Zapami and Zhavame villages, with a night at scenic Kapamodzu. The trip concludes with an optional hike to Dzukou Valley or Pulie Badze, offering a perfect blend of culture, nature, and heritage before departure.
Arrive at Dimapur Airport or Railway Station and begin your journey to Jakhama. En route, visit Kisama Naga Heritage Village for an introductory glimpse into Naga life, architecture, and tribal traditions. Continue to your hilltop retreat, check in, and spend a relaxed evening surrounded by nature.
Explore Jakhama, a traditional Southern Angami village, on a guided heritage walk. Visit the community weaving centre, community seed bank, and interact with locals. Later, head to the paddy fields for a live woodfire cooking picnic lunch served with home-brewed rice beer, marking your warm cultural welcome to Nagaland.
Travel to Khonoma, Asia’s first green village, known for its rich warrior history and conservation efforts. Take a guided tour through its fortified lanes and learn about its legendary resistance against British and Indian forces. Continue to Dzuleke, a serene forest village, for a streamside packed picnic and exploration of its pristine landscapes.
Spend the day exploring Kohima’s main attractions:
Check out and drive to Phek district, home to the Chakhesang Nagas. Visit Zapami, a heritage village with a moving past, completely burnt in the 1957 Indo-Naga conflict. Enjoy lunch at Pfutsero, the highest town in Nagaland, before heading to Zhavame, a traditional village preserved beautifully through time. Arrive at Kapamodzu, check in, and enjoy a stunning sunset.
Spend the morning exploring Kapamodzu, known for scenic landscapes, quiet trails, and panoramic views. After soaking in the charm of the area, drive back to your hilltop retreat in Jakhama for a restful evening.
