Overview

Experience the unique landscapes of the Little Rann of Kutch at Rann Riders on this 3-day journey combining wildlife, birdwatching, and cultural immersion. After arrival and lunch, begin with an afternoon safari across the salt flats, spotting the Asiatic wild ass and abundant birdlife. Day two starts at dawn with a safari to new sanctuary areas, including wetland hotspots, in search of raptors such as the peregrine falcon, followed by an afternoon visit to nearby villages and cottage craft centres to witness traditional skills of local communities. On the final morning, a guided walk through woodlands, wetlands, and farmland ecosystems offers a closer connection to the region’s flora, fauna, and rural life before returning to the resort for breakfast and check-out.

Itinerary

Arrive at Rann Riders in time for lunch, followed by a short orientation and check-in at the rustic eco-lodge.

In the afternoon, set off on your first jeep safari into the salt flats of the Little Rann of Kutch Sanctuary, a surreal landscape teeming with life. Spot the iconic Asiatic wild ass, graceful antelopes, and an astonishing variety of migratory birds that thrive in this stark, saline desert.

Return to the resort by dusk to unwind and enjoy a hearty dinner under the stars, as the desert cools into calm twilight.

This morning, we leave at daybreak to visit a different area of the Sanctuary in search of the many raptors, including the majestic peregrine falcon. We also traverse through some wetland birding hotspots located at the edge of the Rann (4 hrs). Packed breakfast on safari.

Return for some rest and relaxation at Rann Riders. After lunch at the resort, we get back on our safari vehicles and leave for an afternoon excursion towards the villages located at the edge of the Rann. We take the opportunity to explore the various cottage craft centres and skills that the local communities of the region are known for. (3hrs)

Return at sundown for dinner at Rann Riders.

In the last morning, we break the rhythm of jeep safaris by getting out on foot on a guided walk (1.5-2 hrs)exploring the woodlands, wetlands and even the farmland ecosystems located both inside and in the vicinity of Rann Riders. We return to the resort for breakfast and checkout.
